Recall Knowledge – Keeping It Brief

Every week, Recall Knowledge recaps the Know Direction content of the past week, a preview of the Know Direction content of the week to come, and the director of operations, Ryan Costello, thoughts on the state of the network.

You can rewrite lost text, you can redraw a lost image, but you can’t rerecord lost audio.

My editorial is very late, so a few important notes before getting to the KD content.

Last week I said I wasn’t feeling well so I got a COVID test. Results came back negative. I still feel pretty awful, with a sore throat and wicked cough. I feel like if I had to go out in public in my current state, I would set my phone to always display my negative test results so I could wave it around whenever I had a coughing fit.

I lost my voice on Wednesday, the low point of this cold. Coincidentally, the night that Loren and Vee replaced Perram and I to host Know Direction 245. I’ll go into more detail later, but they did such an amazing job. Wednesday may have been the low point of my cold, but their episode was the high point of my day.

And now, a recap of the Know Direction Network content you might have missed last week:

Home Game vs OP vs Actual Play – Know Direction Live

I turned in for the first ten minutes to make sure the show kicked off without a hitch. It kicked off with more than without a hitch, Loren and Vee hit the ground with enthusiasm, getting right to the introduction and explanation before moving on to the topic.

Game Design Unboxed 10: ArchRavels

When I came across the XYZ book at the last in-person GenCon, I took a picture of ArchRavels, the game then on Kickstarter the booth promoted and sent it to a number of friends interested in fiber arts. They all expressed interest in the game. What a clever theme to choose for a tabletop game, with a built-in underrepresented audience and competition. Hearing the GDU cast talk about how the game came to be was a treat.

Know Direction 245 – Home Game vs OP vs Actual Play

Having listened to the whole episode now, I really enjoy what Loren and Vee put together. The topic they chose was one I’d rather listen to than talk about, so that was nice for me, and I feel I learned a lot about both of their gaming history by diving into the context of the campaigns they’ve played and how they felt about them.

Legend Lore Special Edition: One Shot Part 1: Meet Stabby’s Group

You’ve met the players, now meet the characters! I ended up leaving in a preamble in which Loren writes down everyone’s character’s name. It was entertaining, and I figured a couple of different ways in which we meet the characters just helps listeners remember them.

Now you know,

Ryan Costello

Ryan Costello

What started as one gamer wanting to talk about his love of a game grew into a podcast network. Ryan founded what would become the Know Direction Podcast network with Jason "Jay" Dubsky, his friend and fellow 3.5 enthusiast. They and their game group moved on to Pathfinder, and the Know Direction podcast network was born. Now married and a father, Ryan continues to serve the network as the director of logistics and co-host of Upshift podcast, dedicated to the Essence20 RPG system he writes for and helped design. You can find out more about Ryan and the history of the network in this episode of Presenting: http://knowdirectionpodcast.com/2021/01/presenting-ryan-costello/
