Now You Know – Feed Fixues

Every week, Now You Know recaps the Know Direction content of the past week, previews the Know Direction content of the week to come, as the director of operations, Ryan Costello, shares his thoughts on the state of the network.

Last week, I discussed the feed issues plaguing the network for months. I’m happy to say they seem to be resolved. I say “seem” because 1. the problem persisted despite attempt after attempt to solve it, and 2. I only understand what went wrong to the best of my abilities, which are limited in this area. However, I’m confident enough to make this announcement based on who fixed it.

There are three heroes that we owe thanks to for finally fixing our RSS feed issues:

Vanessa Hoskins. Vee took time out of her schedule and applied her I.T. experience to kick our issues to the curb.

Perram. It’s been my policy not to bother Perram with Network matters since he left, both because we need to learn to operate without him and because he’s the type who will keep adding stuff to him plate. But once Vee had admin access to the site, she reached out to him about our problem and he helped her find a solution.

Russell A. Sinclair. A longtime listener and Patron, Russell kept us up to date when the feed went out and used his understanding of XML to help us diagnose the issue.

Several other network staffers deserve praise as well, like Randal, who threw every idea at this problem that he could come up with, jess, who stayed on top of any new development, and Esther, who put me in touch with their partner Alex to work on the site issues.

This has been a huge pain, and I felt helpless to do anything about it. I’m so glad the network has such talented and dedicated staff, friends, and listeners, that we solved this problem together.

Shoot, there’s a balanced party metaphor in there. Oh, I’d have to rewrite the whole thing…

Network Update

Hey, remember two weeks ago when I announced that Know Direction Beyond would be on hiatus after John had to step down as producer? Well James is stepping up! We’ll see about KDB’s recording and release schedule going forward, but for now there’s a new episode recording live this week. Alex and James share their thoughts on the Starfinder 2e Field Test, live, this Wednesday, on the Know Direction Twitch channel.

Speaking of network content, here are the articles and podcasts that released last week:

Essential Builds – Sailor Mercury
By Ryan Costello

The Essential Build that nearly broke me! I may be a fan of Sailor Moon, but I’m no expert. And even though I consider myself an Essence20 expert, there’s the caveat that I barely know the Power Rangers options. As a result, I hit a few walls on this build, and I was worried I couldn’t pull it off. But, other than giving Sailor Mercury a mech, I think it turned out well.

Ryan Costello

Ryan Costello

What started as one gamer wanting to talk about his love of a game grew into a podcast network. Ryan founded what would become the Know Direction Podcast network with Jason "Jay" Dubsky, his friend and fellow 3.5 enthusiast. They and their game group moved on to Pathfinder, and the Know Direction podcast network was born. Now married and a father, Ryan continues to serve the network as the director of logistics and co-host of Upshift podcast, dedicated to the Essence20 RPG system he writes for and helped design. You can find out more about Ryan and the history of the network in this episode of Presenting: http://knowdirectionpodcast.com/2021/01/presenting-ryan-costello/
