I, like so many others at this time, have been swept up by the latest season of Netflix’s 80’s inspired show, Stranger Things. This show, along with having great characters, an interesting mystique, and great music, also has lots of creepy moments! The atmosphere of all the creepy bits of the show are some of my favorite in a long time, so it’s only fitting that the main creature from the first season earn a write up as a Pathfinder monster. There are no spoilers here (that I’m aware of), so feel free to dive into the Upside Down with me!
This creature resembles a tall, thin man, save for its slimy skin. Its head is composed of a large mouth which opens like the petals of a flower to reveal rows of teeth.

Planar Scent (Ex) A demogorgon is capable detecting the scent of blood, even between planar barriers. A demegorgon can detect blood in a 500-foot radius in either the Material Plane or the Upside Down, regardless of which of the two planes it currently resides.
The demogorgon is the name of a mysterious creature from a plane known as the Upside Down. The Upside Down exists as an almost exact duplicate of the Material Plane, save that it seems to be a darker mirror image. The flora and fauna of the Upside Down are more aggressive and unnatural to those of the Material Plane. The demogorgon is a creature that hunts for prey both in the Upside Down and the Material Plane. It is capable of smelling the blood of its prey between the thin dimensional barrier that separates the two planes. This allows the demogorgon to smell the blood of an injured fawn within a forest on the Material Plane as long as the demogorgon is within the matching forest in the Upside Down. A common tactic for the demogorgon is to find its prey on the Material Plane and steal it away to its lair within the Upside Down. The demogorgon stands 6 feet tall and weighs 150 pounds.
In Your Game
The Monster’s Child
The PCs stumble upon a small, strange creature. Its voracious hunger is charming enough until its parent comes searching for the missing child. The PCs must find a way to pacify the demogorgon or be rid of the infant creature.
Pierce the Veil
The PCs need to find a way to reach the plane known as the Upside Down. The most reliable method is to make use of the powers of the demogorgon. The PCs need to set themselves as bait for the creature and survive the crossing to this dark realm.
Planar Rescue
An NPC finds himself kidnapped and taken into the Upside Down to serve as the demogorgon’s next meal. The PCs have to follow the creature’s trail into the mirror plane and rescue the NPC before the demogorgon returns to its den.
That’s it for this week! I think next week will see a return to the stars, so look forward to it! If you end up introducing the demogorgon into your game or you have any request for a future Monstrous Physique, please drop me a line at KnowDirection@hotmail.com.
