Recall Knowledge – June 1st to June 14th

Every week, Recall Knowledge recaps the Know Direction content of the past week, a preview of the Know Direction content of the week to come, and the director of operations, Ryan Costello, thoughts on the state of the network.

PaizoCon Online 2020 Seminar coverage has begun, with a fresh new page in the Con Recordings drop menu.

As much as PaizoCon Online 2020 does not feel like it was just a day over a week ago, it is equally shocking that we are almost a quarter of our way through our PaizoCon Online 2020 coverage. I’m used to the PaizoCon seminars releasing on the front edge of Gen Con hype.

I made a point to tell the KD Con Crew that I wanted to edit the seminars again this year. I know the strength of delegating, and the reason I’ve been able to maintain my role directing operations on the network even as it’s grown is because of the KD staff teamwork I talked about a few weeks ago. Every member we bring in lightens my load a greater amount than what additional staff and content adds to my responsibilities. However, I don’t want to take my hands off too much of the network’s work and risk being detached from how much time and effort the tasks I might delegate demand. PaizoCon seminar coverage was still my responsibility.

Then I fell a few days behind on my work and I ended up needing to tap Vanessa Hoskins on the Discord shoulder and say “you remember that job I insisted be on my plate? I need it off my plate.”

Every PazoCon Online 2020 seminar you hear in podcast format was edited and assembled by Vee, who had some fun ideas to make the seminars stand out and was great about communicating how things were progressing. There was one tiny miscommunication that has turned into a happy accident.

The network typically only releases content on weekdays, so when I said I wanted one seminar recording released a day, I assumed she would skip weekends. Instead, she scheduled them to release daily, weekends included. Which is a perfectly reasonable interpretation of what I said, so I’m not faulting her.

I’m curious to see how this is received. We’ve mentioned a few times recently that we are almost at a podcast a day in our two-week block. If we want to expand further, the options are to double up on a weekday, or to consider releasing on weekends. Right now, thanks to the seminar coverage, you all are getting both. What’s your preference? Let us know in the Feedback and Requests channel of our Discord server.

Since last week went from late and missing content (as I went into elsewhere) to regular content plus PaizoCon Online 2020 seminar coverage, you might have lost track of what was released recently on the Know Direction Network. Here’s a recap:

Digital Divination 005 – PaizoCon Online and Classes

John and Ron are still new to the network to a lot of listeners, so the few minutes of frank on how the protests against police brutality of minors affects them personally gives incredible insight into who they are as people. Similarly, the topic, a broad overview of their thoughts on the Starfinder classes, is a great insight into how they looks at the game.

Know Direction 228 – PaizoCon Online News and Announcements
I have to admit, going into this episode I wondered if people might be PaizoCon’d out. We not only talked about its cancelation and virtual rebirth in the news segments leading up to PaizoCon, the prior two episodes (227’s chat with Tonya, and the special in which we prepped for our role in the seminar coverage) were dedicated entirely to it. And then there was PaizoCon. Having a post-PaizoCon episode felt more out of obligation than excitement. But it wasn’t long into the episode before I was reminded why this was exciting, and how interesting the news that came out of the con was.

PaizoCon Online 2020 – Welcome to PaizoCon Online
If you’ve ever attended or listened to a Welcome To PaizoCon panel, you know they tend to be shorter than most panels. When we saw that two hours was dedicated to this panel, knowing that one of our jobs was to fill the time between whenever one panel ended and the next began, we were pretty sure we were going to get a good chunk of time to introduce ourselves and explain our role at the con. We did not expect to have almost an hour and half to do so. In case you missed it, the majority of the Welcome to PaizoCon Online panel is basically a bonus episode of Know Direction  featuring myself, Perram, and Vanessa.

Because Intrepid Heroes is the only Know Direction Network podcast I am not caught up on, I’ll use this space to update y’all on how catching up is going. I am ¾ of my way through IH 006. If I am at least done episode 008 by the release of episode 038, I am on track!

PaizoCon Online 2020 – Kingmaker Adventure Path

The first official panel of PaizoCon Online 2020, Paizo’s Lisa Stevens, James Jacobs, Mark Moreland, and Legendary Games’ Jason Nelson talk about how one of my favourite Adventure Paths, and Paizo’s second most revisited Adventure Path, is going to look like when it comes to Pathfinder 2e.

PaizoCon Online 2020 – Starship Operations & Beyond!

Quick note about this seminar: It is not the Secrets of Starfinder panel that was the last panel of the first day of PaizoCon and would have been in this spot in the release schedule. Due to technical difficulties, that panel did not happen and so it will not be released. This seminar is about the upcoming Starfinder hardcover, Starship Operations. And it goes into incredible detail about what exciting things to expect from that book.

Important Reminders

Like a bulletin board of all the adventures you should be on.

  • PaizoCon Coverage
It’s been linked several times above, but it is what most of our additional energy will be focusing on in June, concluding with the release of the Closing Ceremony seminar on June 21st.
  • Black Lives Matter
Know Direction will be donating the Patreon money we raised in May to a Black Lives Matter related charity, specifically to bail out protestors. We have found several and so we are currently researching our options to narrow it down to the charity we believe our money will do the most good.

Now you know,
Ryan Costello

Ryan Costello

What started as one gamer wanting to talk about his love of a game grew into a podcast network. Ryan founded what would become the Know Direction Podcast network with Jason "Jay" Dubsky, his friend and fellow 3.5 enthusiast. They and their game group moved on to Pathfinder, and the Know Direction podcast network was born. Now married and a father, Ryan continues to serve the network as the director of logistics and co-host of Upshift podcast, dedicated to the Essence20 RPG system he writes for and helped design. You can find out more about Ryan and the history of the network in this episode of Presenting: http://knowdirectionpodcast.com/2021/01/presenting-ryan-costello/
