Iconic Design: He’s Not a Nice King At All!

Welcome to Guidance, Private Sanctuary’s source for tips and techniques for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, written by Everyman Gamer Alexander Augunas. Today, we’re going to be looking at an Iconic Design for something extra special.

Alright, everyone, this week I have something cool for you. I’m going to be showing you how to build .… CRASH

Is this the Everyman Gaming Blog?

Um … yes?

Great! I have an Iconic Design topic for you! I hope I’m not too late.

Um, okay. Drop it off and I’ll take a look at it in a few weeks.

WHAT?! I want you to look at it NOW!

I can’t. I already have an article planned.

Too bad! Minions of ice and snow, gimme that keyboard!

Wait, no—

Alright folks, today I’ve got something you’re REALLY going to love! For the first time ever on Iconic Design, it’s me! The Ice King! Just wait and see, this is gonna be great.

Background

Ice King is a blue-skinned, elderly man stud muffin with unusually pointy fingers, pointy toes, sharp teeth, and a long, goblin-like nose incredibly good looks. He wears a dark blue tunic and has a large white beard that covers most of his body. Typically, the Ice King’s weight varies. Although his robe gives him the appearance of a fat and short man, Ice King’s body is in fact exceptionally thin ripped, with a very large and defined ribcage pecks. Ice King is rarely seen without his crown; without it he is powerless less attractive, and he is revealed to be balding with a tuft of white hair atop his head sexy. The Ice King is misunderstood, lonely, and only hopes of marrying a princess awesome. He has been labeled a “sociopath” “cool guy” and has poor amazing social skills, a short attention span, and an arrogant nature great personality.

Build Concept

Alright folks, now I’m going to give you the secrets to playing as me, Ice King. You guys are going to be totally stoked, just wait and see: nothin’ but uniqueness here.

  • Sorcerer (Crossblooded): I’ve got the Elemental (Water) bloodline so I can make even the hottest spells cool and the Boreal bloodline to make my ice magic even more threatening. Bet you’ve never seen this rad combination before, right? RIGHT?!
  • Witch (Winter Witch): Don’t tell anyone, but even though my icy powers come from my wicked-cool crown, I actually can’t cast anything unless I have a gab session with Gunter, my penguin. Give’s me a morale boost, ya know?
  • Winter Witch: Alright, here’s what we’re talking about! This Prestige Class represents a magical aristocracy in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, so there’s nothing better for me: Ice King! And it’s easy to get into! What could be better?
  • Race: Human. Well, technically my race is ‘wizard,’ but I’m ahead of the times: Pathfinder doesn’t have a wizard race. Yet.

Early Levels (1–7)

  • Classes: Sorcerer (Crossblooded) 1, Witch (Winter Witch) 5, Winter Witch 1
  • Feats: Toughness (1st), Exotic Weapon Proficiency: nunchaku (3rd), Elemental Focus: cold (5th), Greater Elemental Focus: cold (7th)
  • Abilities: Bloodline Powers (elemental ray (3+Cha per day)), Cold Flesh, Crossblooded Drawbacks (–2 on Will saves, one less spell per level), Hexes (frost foot, frozen caress, prehensile hair), Hyperboreal Patronage, Ice Magic, Winter Patron (unshakable chill, resist energy (cold only), ice storm), Winter Witchcraft, Witch’s Familiar: penguin
  • Sorcerer Spells (1st): burning hands
  • Sorcerer Spells (0): detect magic, prestidigitation, read magic

Wowzers! LOOK HOW AWESOME I AM! I’m only 7th level here and I’ve already got, like, a +4 bonus to the save DC of my ice spells or something! Let’s see, um, +1 from each of the Elemental Focus feats, +1 from the sorcerer arcana, +1 from ice magic … yeah! +4, baby! Just try to resist my CHILLING HANDS! Heheehehehehe, that’s what I call my burning hands spell, because I’m prohibited from casting fire spells, see, and normally from knowing them because, you know, KING of ice and all that jazz! So I took my first level of sorcerer and picked up burning hands so I could cheat a little; with my elemental bloodline, I just turn that spell into a cold spell and presto! An awesome little area attack that gets a +4 to its save DC. Its great being me sometimes!

Alright, now I’m sure you’re all probably wondering, “Ice King! I thought your crown gave you your fantastic powers! Why do you have a familiar?” Well folks, its time to let you all in on a deep, dark secret of mine. DON’T. TELL. ANYONE. I know this is the internet and all, but sheesh! Have a little bit of common respect for a guy, would ya! Anyway, my secret is … I have impotence issues. That’s right! Magical impotence! I simply CAN’T cast any of my awesome powers if I don’t get a pep talk from Gunter, my penguin! Why else do you think I keep so many of the little poop monsters around my crib? For pep talks and because chicks dig a guy with pets, am I right fellows? Right? Right!

Mid Levels (8 –14)

  • Classes: Sorcerer (Crossblooded) 1, Witch (Winter Witch) 5, Winter Witch 8
  • Feats: Toughness (1st), Exotic Weapon Proficiency: nunchaku (3rd), Elemental Focus: cold (5th), Greater Elemental Focus: cold (7th), Craft Wondrous Item (9th), Craft Arms and Armor (11th), Craft Construct (13th)
  • Abilities: Blizzard Sight, Bloodline Powers (elemental ray (3+Cha per day)), Cold Flesh, Crossblooded Drawbacks (–2 on Will saves, one less spell per level), Freeze and Thaw, Hexes (flight, frost foot, frozen caress, hoarfrost, ice tomb, prehensile hair, witch’s hut), Hyperboreal Patronage (wall of ice, icy prison, freezing sphere), Ice Magic, Sculpt Ice and Snow, Unearthly Cold, Unnatural Cold, Winter Patron (unshakable chill, resist energy (cold only), ice storm, wall of ice, cone of cold, freezing sphere), Winter Hex, Winter Witchcraft, Witch’s Familiar: penguin
  • Sorcerer Spells (1st): burning hands
  • Sorcerer Spells (0): detect magic, prestidigitation, read magic

Wow, look at that! I’m even BETTER AT EVERYTHING THEN I WAS BEFORE! I can now use my beard to fly thanks to the flight hex, I can freeze people in tombs of ice with a hex too, and I can even ignore pesky cold resistance! By the end of this level bracket, half of my cold spells even ignore cold immunity: I CAN FREEZE ICE ELEMENTALS ALIVE, BWUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! It’s all so beautiful, I can’t keep from crying just a little bit. Let’s move on: you don’t want to see me cry. I make icicles.

Endgame (15+)

  • Classes: Sorcerer (Crossblooded) 1, Witch (Winter Witch) 9, Winter Witch 10
  • Feats: Toughness (1st), Exotic Weapon Proficiency: nunchaku (3rd), Elemental Focus: cold (5th), Greater Elemental Focus: cold (7th), Craft Wondrous Item (9th), Craft Arms and Armor (11th), Craft Construct (13th), Rime Spell (15th), Spell Penetration (17th), Greater Spell Penetration (19th)
  • Abilities: Blizzard Sight, Bloodline Powers (elemental ray (3+Cha per day)), Cold Flesh, Crossblooded Drawbacks (–2 on Will saves, one less spell per level), Freeze and Thaw, Hexes (flight, frost foot, frozen caress, hoarfrost, ice tomb, numbing chill, prehensile hair, weather control), Hyperboreal Patronage (wall of ice, icy prison, freezing sphere), Ice Magic, Iceglide, Inexorable Cold, Sculpt Ice and Snow, Unearthly Cold, Unnatural Cold, Winter Patron (unshakable chill, resist energy (cold only), ice storm, wall of ice, cone of cold, freezing sphere, control weather, polar ray, polar midnight), Winter Hex, Winter Witchcraft, Witch’s Familiar: penguin
  • Sorcerer Spells (1st): burning hands
  • Sorcerer Spells (0): detect magic, prestidigitation, read magic

I. AM. COMPLTED! Look at all of that awesome, folks! I can build ice golems (including my ice-o-pede), animate my icy mountain home into a giant engine of destruction, I’m immune to cold, ignore cold immunity and resistance with my spells, have a +4 bonus to the DC of my cold spells, cast cold spells at +1 caster level, have an awesome best-buddy familiar, and can do neat things with my hexes like use my beard to fly and grab people and stuff! I’m just the COOLEST PERSON ALIVE EVER! … c’mon! I just told an awesome joke! COOLEST guy ever? And I’m the Ice King? … why aren’t you laughing? WHY AREN’T YOU LAUGHIG! You’ll laugh at my wit if I have to freeze your dumb face into eternal laughter! Forever!

Mythic

Ahem. Pardon that interruption. Sometimes I get a little bit … hot under the collar, hehehehe! Anyway, all you kids are into your newfangled mythic rules nowadays, so I thought I would give you some neat mythic options for me, ‘cause I’m tots mythic!

  • Path: Archmage (arcane surge)
  • Path Abilities: Legendary Item: crown (1st), Extra Mythic Power (2nd), Legendary Item: crown (3rd), Perfect Preparation (4th), Mythic Hexes (5th), Legendary Item: crown (6th), Channel Power (7th), Arcane Metamastery (8th), Crafting Mastery (Bonus), Enduring Armor (9th), Resilient Arcana (10th) • Feats: Spell Lore (1st), Elemental Focus: cold (3rd), Spell Penetration (5th), Toughness (7th), Extra Path Ability (9th)
  • Mythic Spells: animate objects, black tentacles, chain lightning, cone of cold, control weather, fly, ice storm, polar ray, unshakable chill, wall of ice

Eeeeehehehehe! Just look how awesome I am! I finally have rules for my mythic crown, which has the power to keep my body young and spry but still chiseled and appealing to the ladies…. As a mythic wizard, I can prepare my spells without Gunter and can even effortlessly apply my Rime Spell feat to ALL of my icy powers, which is ALL of my icy powers! I get wicked cool icy armor, my spells are harder to dispel, and I get mythic versions of some of my favorite spells. And I don’t care what the grand wizard says, Ice King’s snowy tendrils is NOT a sick and perverted spell! It isn’t, I say! It isn’t! Especially when you use it to gently caress princesses ….

STOP, ICE KING!

What! Finn! How did you get into my blog?

This isn’t your blog, Ice King! Unhand that keyboard pronto!

You’re too late! I’ve already uploaded the entire document to the internet! It’s live I tell you, LIVE!

But … how does that even make SENSE! We’re talking right now!

The crown told me everything that you were going to say, so I wrote it down in advanced. But I added a few bits of my own.

I don’t care what you say you old coot best friend! YOU’RE GROUNDED, ICE KING!

What? No! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

And that takes care of that! Time for some good ‘ole fashioned Finn-time. Sure hope I’m not forgetting anything important.
