SPECIAL ABILITIES
Brutal Charge (Ex) Devil Dinosaur can stampede, thrashing about as he moves. When he charges, he can either attack with his bite or a slam. A successful slam attack deals 4d6+21 damage and knocks his target away 10 feet, as if struck by an Awesome Blow. At any point during this movement, Devil Dinosaur can use his tail sweep attack. This tail sweep does not interrupt his charge.
Fire Sense (Ex) Devil Dinosaur can smell fire and fire effects as if they were an odor with his scent ability.
Impenetrable Hide (Ex) Devil Dinosaur adds half of his natural armor bonus to his AC against ranged touch attacks.
Powerful Bite (Ex) Devil Dinosaur applies twice his Strength modifier to bite damage.
Rampager (Ex) Devil Dinosaur ignores the first 10 points of hardness when attacking objects. He applies twice his Strength modifier when attempting to break an object.
Tail Sweep (Ex) Devil Dinosaur can sweep with his tail as a standard action. The sweep affects a half-circle with a radius of 30 feet, extending from an intersection on the edge of his space in any direction. Creatures within the swept area are affected if they are four or more size categories smaller than Devil Dinosaur. A tail sweep automatically deals 4d6+21 damage. A successful DC 27 Reflex save halves this damage. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Exposed to fire, the young Devil Dinosaur was nearly burned to death on his home world. By chance, this fire caused a mutation in the young reptile, turning his skin red and granting him improved strength and intelligence. A strange set of circumstances led to Devil Dinosaur’s appearance in New York City. After a few run ins with Lunella Lafayette, the two partnered up to become the fantastic duo known as Moon Girl and Dinosaur Girl!
In Your Game
Rampaging… schoolgirl?
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur have swapped minds and now Lunella is out of control. It is up to the PCs to find a way to communicate with the dinosaur to learn what has happened and also to stop the girl genius from wreaking havoc with her powerful gadgets.
Rise of the Killer-Folk
In a prehistoric setting, a rival tribe has captured the Devil. This group is now nigh unstoppable with the fearsome lizard on their side. It is up to the PCs to find a way to either release the beast or put a stop to it with their primitive technology.
The Zombie Devil
A portal from an alternate universe opens in the PCs world. From within steps forth a terrible monstrosity—zombie Devil Dinosaur! When he was exposed to fire, Devil Dinosaur perished but rose again as an undead version of his standard counterpart. Not only is his death only possible in his home world, the portal may allow other zombies to arrive!
Monstrous Origins
Well, there’s not really too much to Devil Dinosaur in terms of extraordinary abilities. Alex already covered the mind swap in his entry. The one thing I could really play up is just how strong and destructive DD is. Rather than just take a tyrannosaurus and make it red, I decided to make it stronger and scarier. I stole the tail sweep ability from the true dragons and let him do it while charging. I also decided to beef up his defenses a little. In the comics, bullets are seemingly useless against Devil Dinosaur’s hide, so I improved his touch AC to combat firearms. Finally, with the ability to really take it to those inanimate objects like buildings and vehicles, we have a dinosaur fit to be called Devil.
That’s it for this week! Please let us know if you liked our little cross-over event. I had a fun time with it! If you end up riding the Devil Dinosaur into your game or you have any request for a future Monstrous Physique, please drop me a line at KnowDirection@hotmail.com.
