Now You Know – Oops

Every week, Now You Know recaps the Know Direction content of the past week, previews the Know Direction content of the week to come, and shares the thoughts on the state of the network from the director of operations, Ryan Costello.

Even though we were on the good end of daylight savings time, yesterday I felt the extra hour of doing stuff and being awake weighing on me after putting my girls to bed. I still had to edit the Adventurous episode scheduled this week, and write this blog post. I debated talking about how missing Assembly Required (a G.I. Joe focused convention) made me again nostalgic for cons. But I talked about that in July. So I considered talking about how I finally invested in sharing on Twitter after shrugging the platform off for a decade and a half, only for it to be the target of scorn and ridicule after Elon Musk bought it. But did I really have enough to say to fill an editorial, let alone any original thoughts on the matter? Finally, I thought about talking about the Patron’s Private Sanctum we recorded last Wednesday. But this wouldn’t amount to anything more than shameless self=promotion for our Patreon. So I put this post aside and edited Adventurous.

Then I forgot to come back to it.

So, oops, sorry folks. But I don’t like missing Now You Knows, for the sake of the network’s diligent content creators who deserve any spotlight I can shine on them. So, better late than never.

Speaking of Know Direction Network Content, here’s a recap of the Know Direction Network content from last week:

Intrepid Heroes 098 – That’s No Moon

I don’t know why John didn’t mention that his character had the portion of his memory dedicated to Raz deleted in his write-up for the latest Intrepid Heroes.

Maybe he forgot.

Eldritch Excursion – Lurking in the Deep Web
By Nate Wright

Speaking of network anniversaries, Nate’s been writing Eldritch Excursion on Know Direction for a year. Nate’s an amazing writer, and I delight in reading his pun-filled titled, narrative introductions, and creative content. For example: his latest article on web-puppeteered undead called Web Mummies.

Behind The Screens – Learning From Dungeons & Dragons

A little behind the scenes on the latest Behind The Screens: I had a tonne of G.I. Joe preorders on Big Bad Toy Store -including a few expensive items and no cheap items- fire one after another. For the sake of my budget, I needed to cut some other preorders, including the greatest Nightwing action figure I can imagine, and my preorders of the Dungeons & Dragons action figures.  It made me reminisce about the animated series that introduced me to D&D, and how it’s the only aspect of the brand I still associate with.

Upshift 005 – Operation: Cold Iron Breakdown

Oh this went long.

An hour and a half episode of a ~40-minute podcast snowballs (appropriately enough) into a week long problem as I try to squeeze triple the editing time into a regular week. One week shy of the one week a year that’s an hour longer!

Along similar lines as the latest Digital Divination, Jason and I breakdown the first Adventure Series hardcover for the G.I. JOE Roleplaying Game, Operation: Cold Iron. He looks at it as a developer, and I as a designer.

Presenting: Jacob Blackmon

As I typically mention when John interviews artists, I regret that my limited art vocabulary and visual thinking means I rarely interview artists on my podcasts. Jacob Blackmon’s been network adjacent for forever, and lately he’s been killing it as a popular artist of Transformers player characters. Can’t wait to hear this interview.

Now you know,
Ryan Costello

Ryan Costello

What started as one gamer wanting to talk about his love of a game grew into a podcast network. Ryan founded what would become the Know Direction Podcast network with Jason "Jay" Dubsky, his friend and fellow 3.5 enthusiast. They and their game group moved on to Pathfinder, and the Know Direction podcast network was born. Now married and a father, Ryan continues to serve the network as the director of logistics and co-host of Upshift podcast, dedicated to the Essence20 RPG system he writes for and helped design. You can find out more about Ryan and the history of the network in this episode of Presenting: http://knowdirectionpodcast.com/2021/01/presenting-ryan-costello/
