Every week, Now You Know recaps the Know Direction content of the past week, previews the Know Direction content of the week to come, as the director of operations, Ryan Costello, shares his thoughts on the state of the network.
When we announced the return of the Know Direction podcasts, with new hosts and a new format, I tried to make it clear that, like the other podcasts on the network, the new team dictated the direction of the flagship. After a few months of finding their footing, Esther and Navaar asked for a break to apply what they learned and readjust.
One of the most nebulous decisions we make as podcasters is the show’s format. A podcast can be anything. It can be talking heads, interviews, performative, or a variety show. How long each episode goes, how often they come out, all hang in the air when deciding what a podcast should look like. And, of course, no plan survives contact with reality. Some decisions require more energy than expected, some constraints are too restrictive, and sometimes everything is fine until, unexpectedly, it’s not.
The latest episode of Know Direction is one example of that. Another is Loren’s participation in the network. As she posted on the Know Direction Discord server last week:
Unfortunately, I have to take a short break from recording Legend Lore and Tavern Rats to focus on my school work. You guys, and my other friends from the Pathfinder community, have always been one of my highest priorities, so I don’t take a hiatus lightly. But graduate school is as intense and demanding as they claim. I need to focus exclusively on that work for a few more weeks to finish my Masters and move into my doctoral research. I promise this is only a temporary break for Legend Lore, and I can’t wait to get back to talking Pathfinder with jess soon. (In fact, jess and I might have something spooky in store for Legend Lore near the end of October.) For Tavern Rats, we have enough already recorded that there shouldn’t be a break in that release schedule, and I’ll be back to cutting awful puns in no time. So wish me luck (cause I’m gonna need it), and I’ll see you on the other side! <proceeds to make a Lore: Academia check, DC 30>

So Know Direction returns just as Loren needs to take a break. Our content continues to evolve, all of which we make in our spare time based on our passion for the games we cover. Thank you all for your patience, and for sharing that passion with the network.
