About
KNOW DIRECTION NETWORK
Hosts
Ryan Costello
Ryan started 3.5 Private Sanctuary as a proud 3.5 loyalist who wanted to build a community for other fans of the 3.5 edition of the world’s oldest roleplaying game, but his passion quickly converted to Pathfinder enthusiasm as soon as Paizo released 3.5’s successor. Now he hosts the premier Pathfinder podcast, Know Direction, and the general geekery podcast Geek Together. Additionally, Ryan has written Pathfinder game material for third party publishers, as well as Paizo, contributing to such titles as Ultimate Campaign and Ultimate Equipment.
Jefferson Jay Thacker a.k.a. Perram
Before Perram joined Know Direction as the show’s first full time co-host, the podcast could have best been describe as a bunch of Pathfinder RPG stuff. Perram brings a knowledge of and love for Golarion to Know Direction, something any Pathfinder podcast is lacking without. On top of being a man on the pulse of the Pathfinder campaign setting, Perram is the founder of the superlative site for Pathfinder spellcasters, Perram’s Spellbook, a free web application that creates customized spell cards.
Cathy Dolan
Cathy Dolan joined The Private Sanctuary with episode 222, helping to relaunch 3.5 Private Sanctuary with a new voice and perspective, heavily focused on the social aspects of the hobby and the role playing aspects of character building. A dyed-in-the-wool geek, Cathy is the primary occupant of the second chair on Geek Together. She goes in depth about what makes her a geek in her Geek Together Episode 0.
I’m at Gencon. Would love to say hi in person. Hanging out anywhere?
Saw this too late, Mark. Sorry if we missed you.
Your podcast feed is broken. It keeps redownloading played episodes and I have had to delete it from my subscriptions because its clogging out my entire ipod with episodes I’ve already listened to. Love the shows and the con coverage, just hoping it can be fixed soon.
Hey Nathan!
What feed link are you using, and what pod catcher are you using? I’ll try and get things fixed best I can, but the more info you can give me the better.
We think we may have fixed it. Our old Feedburner URL wasn’t working correctly. I’ve tested it and it should work. As a consequence though, we had to reduce the number of episodes in the feed from infinite to 30. Though all episodes will still be available here on the site.
Thanks. . . I unsubbed and subbed back up to the new one– I had been on iTunes on the main/everything feed. Seems to only have the new episode and the ones I specifically downloaded as of now.
Thanks so much, really love the show!
Would it be possible to offer an RSS feed with Alex Augunas’ articles? Or maybe a full feed that includes these articles? I can’t seem to find one.
Don’t know if Perram or Ryan have seen this yet. I’ll pass your question along to them.
I’d second this suggestion. I’d appreciate the articles showing up in my feed.
Hey guys! As of this post, the Know Direction forums are still unavailable, so I’d like to redirect any questions you have either to the Know Direction Facebook page or the Private Sanctuary Podcast Facebook page. Posts to either of those pages are MUCH more visible to us then they are here.

I’m watching the know direction video where you guys discus game stores and I appreciate the discussion. I’d like to know your opinion on how gaming glut affects stores as a whole?
let me explain what I mean.
My friends and I picked up our red box way back in 1986 and then shortly moved to 1e. Back in the 1e days there were maybe 10 hard cover books, half of which I still don’t know if they were ever useful and the rest of the material was soft cover modules.
Now, I don’t know the first thing about production costs for these books or profit margins for companies in the industry, but I do know the basics of retail being…buy for a nickel and sell for a dollar. now to the meat of my angle…does the current trend of 1 hard cover full color glossy book a month inherently suffocate the industry? Especially if I can buy that $40 book online for $25. to go one step further, for every person who buys a book, how many pirate it?
Isn’t the industry killing itself? Especially with self publishing and kickstarter etc. I could ramble on and on with this topic, but I’m curious what you think about my point of view.
You guys provide the community a great service by the way…keep up the good work.
From a group that seems so dedicated to political correctness I was annoyed by the Back Woods Game Store reference.
Just because you were going after people who may well be despicable does not mean that referring to the apocryphal BWGS was not bigotry.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the shout out you guys did for Pathbuilder 2e on your podcast on the 4th October. Much appreciated and I’m glad you find it useful (as long as you’re not trying to select feats you already selected….!)
I already take Vitamin D3 & K2 from Nutravita and have done for some time.
I think they are a great supplement, as I’m generally free from ailments and I really hope
to keep it like that with continued use. I bought a container of Nutravita’s
Vitamins and Minerals as these were an excellent price for a year’s supply and I have
started initially to utilize them as an inclusion to the
D3 and K2, which Natalie at Nutravita confirmed was fine to do.
As said before, I’m lucky that I’m without any ailments, which I do believe is down in my experience taking Nutravita products to help keep me healthy, hopefully the Vitamins and Minerals will support my continued good health.
