That’s right, Now You Know is back!
And that’s not all. For the past few months, I’ve quietly increased the network’s output in a few important areas.
First of all, the Patreon. For the longest time, the only bonus content for Patrons we released was the after shows. Unfortunately, those went away (double checks) two and a half years ago. Between November 8, 2022 and February 4, 2025, we only posted four times to the Patreon. That’s when I decided to be more active.
Since then, I’ve been posting episodes of 3.5 Private Sanctuary, in order, with commentary. It’s been fascinating to return to my early podcasting career, hearing my hot takes from 2007, musing over then current references (especially when they relate to technology), and being brought back to campaigns from my peak gaming years. Honestly, it’s these episodes as time capsules that I’ve enjoyed the most.
I know revisiting these episodes appeals only to a small audience, but that’s the whole point of the Patreon. It gives us a venue for niche content. Hopefully in the future we’ll start posting content with broader appeal. As always, the struggle is that every idea I come up with for content I think of primarily as content for the site. Maybe someday I’ll come up with something that works better as exclusive content. Until then, the struggle continues. If you have any ideas, especially things you’ve seen work with other gaming podcasts you subscribe to, I’d love to hear them.
Second of all, I’ve started designing and sharing memes on social media. For about as long as the Patreon’s been on hiatus, we’ve only used our social media accounts to share new blogs and shows. Not only does the algorithm hate this kind of content, it gives our followers very little reason to continue to follow our pages. At least now I’m using my experience from my year of managing Voltron’s social media pages to create fun and relatable memes to amuse our followers and engage with a wider audience.
That felt cold. I’ll leave it because it gets the point across, but let me just say that Know Direction’s drifted for a few years. We’ve released less content, and ended up unfortunately and coincidentally dropping basically all of our Pathfinder content. If it wasn’t for Rob Pontious dipping into Pathfinder hardcovers for Investing In, we’d have nothing. I know there’s crossover between Pathfinder and Starfinder, we’re still putting out podcasts that the people who come to Know Direction for Pathfinder coverage -the majority of our audience- might enjoy, but the stuff that was supposed to broaden what we put out (Game Design Unboxed and my Essence20 stuff) has turned into a large percentage of what we put out.
The memes are a start. Hopefully we’ll have some more Pathfinder content soon, and Know Direction will start feeling like its old self again. It helps that I’m in my first regular Pathfinder game in four years. I don’t have to rely on memories of feelings, I have my feet in the dirt, finding the path.
