Hey Ryan, I was thinking about your “dragon spirits” idea for your campaign, and I had an idea of how to make them a bit more like “spirits” than giving everyone a familiar, if you wanted to. In The Monster Summoner’s Handbook there is a very cool feat called Summon Guardian Sprit, which gives a person a particular improved familiar as a summonable monster using summon monster III or summon nature’s ally III. The same spirit appears every time you cast the spell. You could give the characters this feat and a summoning spell as a spell-like ability, limited to only working to summon their dragon spirit. This would have the advantage that not everyone’s dragon would be out at the same time, slowing down combat. Here is the link to the text of the feat, but unfortunately neither Nethys nor d20 have the progression table that is part of the feat. http://www.archivesofnethys.com/FeatDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Summon Guardian Spirit
What do you think?
I might look into this as an alternative option to offer alongside it, but giving everyone a dragon familiar was part of the appeal of the concept. Heck, it’s half of what inspired the name Dragon Pets.
