Now You Know – What’d I Miss

Every week, Now You Know recaps the Know Direction content of the past week, previews the Know Direction content of the week to come, as the director of operations, Ryan Costello, shares his thoughts on the state of the network.

In case anyone didn’t hear, Montreal was hit with its worst ice storm since 1998. And like in 1998, we suffered widespread power outages. My house was out of power for 70+ hours. Fortunately, my in-laws share their power grid with Montreal’s biggest hospital, so they never lose power. Still, even though I had access to hot water and a place to charge my electronics, my online agility took a hit. And wouldn’t you know it, it was a big week for Paizo news. So, here’s a summary of what I failed to share over the last week:

  • Get Your Tickets for PaizoCon Online 2023
I’ve seen a few people online equate “PaizoCon is only online this year” to “There’s no PaizoCon this year.” Well there is a PaizoCon this year! It’s online, May 26th to 29th, and tickets for Warhorn games are currently available.
  • Paizo Partners with BKOM on Two Pathfinder Games
Two new Pathfinder games are hitting the market this year, from BKOM Studios, including one launching on Steam later this year. Despite being based in Quebec (but Quebec City, which is a while away from Montreal), I don’t know much about this studio or its games. However, if their game play matches the quality of their graphics, this could be a huge deal. I will be actively following news of this new game as it develops.
  • First Draft of the ORC License Ready for Public Comment
The fervor over the OGL may have died down when WotC fully reversed their position, but it still opened the RPG industry’s eyes to how vulnerable publishers are to the whims of Wizards of the Coast. The ORC announcement was a huge deal, and the update is appreciated.

Network Update

There’s more podcast content abrewing, but it’s still too early to go into details. So, no network update this week.

Now you know,
Ryan Costello

Ryan Costello

What started as one gamer wanting to talk about his love of a game grew into a podcast network. Ryan founded what would become the Know Direction Podcast network with Jason "Jay" Dubsky, his friend and fellow 3.5 enthusiast. They and their game group moved on to Pathfinder, and the Know Direction podcast network was born. Now married and a father, Ryan continues to serve the network as the director of logistics and co-host of Upshift podcast, dedicated to the Essence20 RPG system he writes for and helped design. You can find out more about Ryan and the history of the network in this episode of Presenting: http://knowdirectionpodcast.com/2021/01/presenting-ryan-costello/
