Unfortunately, after several close calls over the last few years, our luck ran out and we have a positive case of COVID-19 in my house. Three of the four of us are vaxxed to capacity, but our youngest is ineligible for the vaccine due to her age, and she caught it at daycare. So far, she’s feeling fine. Her pediatrician says that the rate of vaccination in our area is extremely high (something like 90%), meaning that her viral load is probably significantly lower than positive cases in even the recent past, and she might never develop any symptoms. Hopefully that’s the case, and the worst we had to deal with was a week of isolation playing video games and watching streaming as a family. A lot of Castle Crashers and Pokémon.
All that to say, between this and the projects that had me busy last week, I won’t have as much time to participate in Network content for the foreseeable future.
Speaking of Network content, here’s a recap of the podcasts and blogs from last week at the Know Direction Network:

Know Direction 269 – Queerfinder Breakdown
The Know Direction podcast was founded on interviews with third party publishers, and this interview exemplifies why. They’re among the most passionate gamers, dedicated Pathfinder enthusiasts, and creative people, operating on the drive to add what they see is missing from their favourite content. In this case, it’s exploring the Pathfinder Campaign Setting through the format of a gay travel magazine. Which, I’ll admit I didn’t know until I listened to this episode has a long history of existence on, y’know, Earth.

Eldritch Excursion – Two Headed Classes
By Nate Wright
The second time I played in a Kingmaker campaign, one of the players, Stone, had a friend who wanted to play but couldn’t regularly attend. One of Stone’s suggested solutions was that he play a Dragon Rider (from Rogue Genius Games), and that whenever the his friend attended, he played the dragon.
It never ended up happening, but I was reminded of it by Nate’s article about turning companions into PCs. It solved not only our occasional player situation, but tied into works of fiction that treat pets as full members of the team.

Game Design Unboxed 30: Summit
Last week I said I remembered Summit when Conor McGoey of Inside Up Games was my booth neighbour at Essen. It ends up, I remembered Mountaineers by Corey Wright of Massif Games. Oops. Oh well, it was great getting to know Conor in this extended interview, going into his motivations for making a game about mountain climbing, and the changes he made to allow for competitive, cooperative, and solo modes.
