Now You Know recaps the Know Direction content of the past week, previews the Know Direction content of the week to come, and shares the thoughts on the state of the network of the director of logistics, Ryan Costello.
This Wednesday sees the return of the annual Know Direction Holiday Special. It’s become one of my a favourite network traditions. Its fun to hang out with all the cool people we have working on the Know Direction Network, and an important reminder that despite geography and epidemiology, we’re all just a video call away from each other. We’re starting at 8:00 pm Eastern this time, to make room for as many staff appearances as we can.
It’s also my last episode co-hosting the Know Direction podcast. It wasn’t an easy decision to leave a podcast I’ve been a host on since 2009, but it’s the right decision. One of the reasons I’m good at my role as the network’s director of logistics is that I can be realistic about how limited my time is. I’d love to have gotten into Starfinder when it first released, and I’ve followed the game as a fan who basically never played since its inception. I’m in a similar situation with Pathfinder 2e now, knowing my time and interests are more committed to Essence20 as a professional and a fan.
I’m curious to see how leaving the podcast affects my relationship with Pathfinder 2e. I’m still a fan of the system, and I enjoy the games I’m currently playing in. But without the need to read every book cover to cover, ideally before the release date, I’m curious if I’ll end up with an unread pile of shame on my bedside table. There’s already a number of Pathfinder 2e books sitting there because I wasn’t reading them for review, simply for enjoyment.
I can say that no matter how much less Pathfinder 2e I play in 2022, it will remain the main focus of The Know Direction Network. The majority of our content covers it. The majority of our staff plays it and writes for it. The new staff we brought in carries on that tradition. Honestly, I expect Know Direction to remain biggest link to Pathfinder 2e , even if the nature of that link changes.
This is my last blog post before the New Year, and I could talk about 2022 plans and resolutions. But as I write this, it’s late, I’m tired and on vacation. There’s also not much to recap last week, and I suspect most of what I preview this week is also getting the December holiday pass. So instead I’ll just leave you with a happy holidays, hope to see you all Wednesday, and here’s to a new year, and, in a lot of ways, a new Know Direction.
Now you know,
Ryan Costello
